The Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), Mr Peter Igho, has said that since his assumption of office three years ago, the commission has realised about N3billon in revenue. This was just as he said that the money would be ploughed back into the society to help the less privileged.
The retired broadcaster stated this when he led other senior officials of the commission on a visit to the management of LEADERSHIP Newspapers at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
The DG, who lamented that for a long time, lottery business in the country had been hijacked by cheats to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians, said that for it to effectively work in the country, operators must be transparent and embrace integrity as a cardinal virtue for the business.
According to him, every lottery dealer in the country would be made to send back 50 per cent of the money they make to the society as prizes even as he said that the commission has setup a committee members of which were selected from different parts of the country to supervise the management of 20 per cent of lottery fee paid by organisers of lotteries in the country.
Igho called on Nigerians and the media to join hands in checking the activities of illegal lottery organisers who exploit the ignorance of the public for selfish purposes.
