His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar yesterday called on Muslims in the country to shun violence and any form of extremism, saying “extremism brought about the present insecurity and hardship among the Muslim ummah.”
Then Sultan also urged Muslim to unite and adhere strictly to the teaching of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Speaking while delivering a keynote address during the 7th Ramadan lectures organized by NTA/FRCN at Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hall, Murtala Muhammad Square, Kaduna,? Sultan said “Muslims must understand that Islam does not like the extremist, and extremism is against what Allah SWT revealed to mankind.”
Represented by the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubair Jibrin Maigwari , Sultan further observed that lack of unity and extremism brought about the present insecurity and hardship among the Muslim ummah.’’
He said: “Extremism affects all religions, therefore, let us set aside religious differences.”
He recalled that “six years ago as a soldier I presented a paper on religious extremism which the same problem is still affecting the country now and extremism is also in other religions.”
According to the Sultan, the only solution is for Muslims to repent and go back to Allah SWT and follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Earlier in his speech the guest lecturer,? Malam Umar Abdullahi Dada Paiko who delivered a paper titled? “Extremism and Islam”, pointed out that extremism is alien to the tradition of Islam and Muslims.
