The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) said the nation’s airspace has witnessed an increase of about 12.8 percent in aircraft movement from January to June this year, while revenue from over-flyers increased by 5 per cent within the same period.
Over-flyers in this instance, refer to aircraft that pass through the nation’s airspace to other destinations.
The Managing Director of NAMA, Mazi Nnamdib Udoh, who disclosed this in Lagos yesterday did not however disclose in concrete terms how much the agency has realised within the period, but also said the passenger traffic has witnessed a growth of 8 per cent during the period.
Udo was reacting to reports that the agency was losing revenue because foreign airlines that usually overfly the nation’s airspace now divert their flights to other countries due to safety challenges in the nation’s airspace.
?He said that was not the case, stressing that the agency has invested heavily in the installation of navigational aids and equipment to facilitate safe flights.
