The Senator representing? Uyo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Senator Ita Enang has dismissed as false, rumours? making the rounds that? the federal lawmakers were planning to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan.
Ita Enang who stated this yesterday in Uyo during an interaction with journalists said as a former member of the? House of Representatives he was not aware? of any impeachment move by the lower House against the President.
He said the only contentious issue was the refusal of the executive to release?? funds for the implementation of 2012 budget especially capital and constituency projects.
Senator Ita Enang disclosed that there are allegations that the Federal Government was quietly?? funding projects initiated only by the executive leaving others and those from the National Assembly unattended.
This he noted was the only bone of contention saying that it would soon be resolved.
‘’There seemed to be a minor disagreement on what the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala told members of the National Assembly on the implementation of the budget and? what some ministry officials are saying on the?? financing status of implementation.
‘’When we met with the Minister, she? showed us documents indicating approvals? for projects but at the ministry level? they say there is no cash backing so these are the issues in dispute and not impeachment,’’ Ita Enang stated.
The Senator who described as very alien the call by certain groups for convocation of a sovereign national conference to address the current political and religious problems in the country noted that such calls would amount to mere entertainment as no one can convoke any national conference while the State and National Assemblies are?? still in place.
He explained that when the people’s representatives? at the state or the National Assembly are still functioning in their capacity as? lawmakers, the constitution does not allow any other group of persons to represent them.
