The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar has ordered the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Command, AIG Mike Zuokumor, and the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ayeni, to end the violence which has engulfed Plateau State in recent times.
Abubakar gave them the marching orders yesterday during a meeting with senior police officers, where he directed the officers to come up with practicable and realistic solutions to address the security challenges in Plateau State.
He said, “The Jos crisis is a problem that must be solved. Just recently, many people lost their lives in Barkin Ladi and Riyom, including a serving senator and a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly. But the violence that has pervaded the Plateau for several years must come to an end.
“While we sympathise with families of all those who have suffered the violence in the state, I must reiterate our commitment to the ongoing security arrangement and other efforts aimed at restoring peace in Plateau State.
“To this end I now direct the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Command, AIG Mike Zuokumor, and the Commissioner of Police, Plateau CP Emmanuel Ayeni to immediately commence efforts at restructuring and evolving effective security strategies to address the security challenges in Plateau State.”
He gave them Tuesday, August 14, to furnish him with new strategies towards restoring peace to the state.
Abubakar urged commissioners of police to adopt modern techniques in combating crimes and said he would not take it kindly with officers who stuck to the traditional policing methodology, which he said, no longer yielded the desired result.
