The aged mother of the convicted Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Hajiya Fatima Al-Mustapha is dead.
She died in Kano, yesterday, after a protracted illness and was buried at Fagge cemetery.
Late Fatima died at Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) Kano where she was referred to when she returned from Saudi Arabia where she had for medical treatment.
A member of the family said that late Fatima died at the age of 70 years after suffering from a protracted ailment that lasted for more than a decade.
It was gathered that the deceased’s condition was said to have worsened after her son was incarcerated for the alleged murder charge which led to his conviction. Al-Mustapha was sentenced to death by hanging for the offence but his family had appealed the judgment.
It would be recalled that the deceased’s husband, Al-Mustapha, the father of Major Hamza, died in 2009 from a protracted illness.
When contacted, spokesman of the family, Alhaji Hadi Al-Mustapha confirmed the death and said that what was more painful to the family was that both the late Al-Mustapha and his wife were unable to meet with their son, Hamza, before their death.
Hundreds of sympathisers had? thronged the family residence of the deceased at Lamido crescent in Kano Metropolis where funeral service was held.
Late Fatima was buried according to Islamic rites as relatives, family members, neighbours and sympathisers thronged the house en-masse to commiserate with the family over her demise.
