Tears, Outrage Over Al-Mustapha Absence At Mother’s Fidda’u Prayers

Emotions ran high as sympathisers at the 3rd Day Fidda’u prayers for late Hajiya Fatima Al-Mustapha could not hold back tears at the prayer session, protesting the absence of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, her eldest son.

There was visible anger and frustration among hundreds of sympathizers that thronged the residence of the deceased over the absence of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha for the prayer session.

Hajiya Fatima died Wednesday after a protracted illness at Malam Akinu Teaching Hospital [AKTH] and was buried immediately at Fagge cemetery in accordance with Islamic injunctions.

The prayer session attended by hundreds of sympathisers at the family residence of Al-Mustapha along Lamido Crescent in Nassarawa GRA, Kano, almost turned into a spontaneous protest as people lamented Al-Mustapha’s absence, whose sentencing to death by hanging is being challenged by members of his family.

Shortly after, hundreds of people, Islamic scholars and politicians devoted time to recite the Holy Qur’an, concern was mounted over Al-Mustapha’s absence that had similar fate when his father died in 2009 while under detention for the same offence.

Sympathisers who thronged the family residence shed tears, as some wail openly while expressing their anger and dismay over the prolonged incarceration of Major Al-Mustapha and his sentencing by the court to death by hanging, the judgement contested by family members at the Supreme court.

?The atmosphere at the family was charged as sympathizers could not understand reasons behind authority's inability?to tamper justice with mercy.

The condolence register at the family House further captures the mood of several Nigerians over the plight of Major Al Mustapha as some inscriptions read: “free Al Mustapha, he ?has paid enough sacrifice”, “the failure of Government to allow this illustrious son join other members of the family to mourn the death of his mum is an attestation that somebody somewhere want him dead”, Haba Jonathan, free this man now and win our heart”.

Spokesman of the family, Hadi Al Mustapha who was on hand to receive visitors took time to pacify well-wishers to “seek refuge with the Lord” at a trial period like this, adding that “we must not forget that destiny is playing its full role now”.

Hadi Al Mustapha in tears reminded the crowd that the family had since filed an appeal contesting the verdict m of Lagos High court, adding that “I am confident that my brother, ?my family, and all of you here shall overcome this nightmare in not too distant future”

The younger Al Mustapha further tasked the crowd of sympathizer to resort to prayers as means of identifying with the family at this moment of crisis, stressing that “as a Muslims, we sincerely believe that Allah is a merciful lord and He would certainly listen to us”.
