A 23 year-old private security operative has taken his own life over fear that he would undergo arrest and possible detention in a police station.
LEADERSHIP SUNDAY learnt that the man whose name was given as Solomon from Kaduna State had been accused of stealing some money, including N24, 000 and another $2000, from one of the tenants of a one storey apartment in J.A Zaky Street, Dutse1, Bwari Area Council, where he worked as a security guard.
The tragic incident occurred last Friday around 11.30 am, after Solomon had allegedly confessed to the tenant that he had possession of the Naira notes, but claimed he did not know anything about the dollars.
The tenant who did not believe him allegedly detailed one of his brothers to watch over Solomon so that he did not escape while he went to get the police to arrest him.
According to an eyewitness who told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY Sunday that he saw Solomon’s fresh corpse dangling from the roof of the security post of the compound which doubles as Solomon’s office and home, before the tenant could come back with police men, Solomon had killed himself.
When LEADERSHIP SUNDAY visited the police outpost station under which jurisdiction J.A Zaky street falls, an officer who did not disclose his identity disclosed that he saw the dangling fresh corpse of Solomon at the scene after the police were invited, said the outpost station could not handle the issue and so officers from the division in Bwari were invited.
According to him, the officers from the division numbering over 10 were said to have arrived the scene around 1pm, took photo snapshots of the dangling corpse, cut off the rope which Solomon used to hang himself and wrapped the corpse in a blanket.
At the divisional police station the Divisional Police Officer, DPO,? was not available to react to the incident but an officer who preferred anonymity told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY? that he accompanied the crew of officers who visited the scene of the tragedy. He said the photographer who took the photo shots of the corpse had not made them available promising to make it available when the photographer brought it.
