Group Petitions IG Over False Allegations Against Sen. Uzodinma

More public outcry and condemnations have continued to trail an alleged blackmailer, Ebubeagu Ekenulo, who was said to have attempted to extort money from the Senator representing Orlu Senatorial District of Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma.

Ebubeagu was said to have made false allegation that the Senator’s academic certificate was forged and subsequently made phone calls demanding financial gratifications to enable him retract the allegations to which the Senator was said to have called his bluff.??

The latest anger against Ebubeagu is coming from a group of Imo indigenes under the aegis of Forum for Protection of Truth and Human Dignity (FPTHD), who disclosed through a press statement released yesterday that they have written a petition to the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the alleged blackmailer. The group also said that Ebubeagu has gone underground since the Senator reported the matter to the Police. The statement was signed by Chief Donatus Maduabugichim.??

“We have written a petition to the Inspector General of Police dated Friday 3rd August 2012. We are demanding that the Police fish out this false accuser from wherever he may be hiding. People should no longer be allowed to think that they make any allegation they like and against whomever they wish to and the go underground believing that it would end like that??

“Such senseless false allegations against one of the most outstanding representatives of our state cannot be allowed to go unpunished. He should either produce the so-called forged certificate or face the full wrath of the law. This is the only way to deter other people from such nefarious activities.??

“Senator Hope Uzodinma is one of the leading lights in Imo State today and on whom the state is looking up to for quality representation in the Senate. He has been doing all Imo people proud. We therefore condemn in the strongest possible term this attempt by enemies of progress to pour tar on his hard- earned reputation,” the group said.??

On the insinuations from some quarters that Ebubeagu was being sponsored by political opponents of Senator Hope Uzodinma whom he defeated during the 2011 general election, the group described that as unfortunate and called on politicians to eschew bitterness and mudslinging of their opponents for the interest of the nation.??

“If you are defeated in an election, you should just take it like a sportsman. Politics should no longer be a do or die affair. To hire questionable elements to begin campaign of calumny and character assassination of political opponents is very primitive and should be condemned by all well- meaning Nigerians, no matter who is behind it,” the petition concluded.
