About four persons including a commercial motorcyclist, a hawker and a child beggar today, lost their lives in an accident? along Enugu-Onitsha expressway at the popular UNIZIK junction in Awka, Anambra State.
Also, over 21 vehicles consisting of private and commercial buses? and other cars were destroyed. This was following the loss of brake by a truck with registration number, Benue XD 230 MKD conveying unknown goods under military escort to Onitsha.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the accident was made even more ghastly by a traffic hold up at the junction as a result of construction work going on, on one part of the road by a construction company, CCC.
The accident which happened at 4:10pm attracted a lot of onlookers, as wailing rent the air.
A women who identified herself as Mama Dada in an interview with LEADERSHIP identified one of the dead victims as Chisom, a child beggar who she said is fond of leaving her mother’s stall in a nearby market to beg for alms.
Though Federal road safety officials who were at the scene of the accident could not readily identify the victims, it was gathered that while one of the boys is a motorcyclist, the other is a hawker who sells gala.
