The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), on Friday expressed its support for the implementation of the maternal and child health care programme to ensure its success.
Dr Solomon Avidime, the state Chairman of the association, said this in Kaduna at the opening of this year's Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NMA.
Avidimesaid that the theme of this year’s lecture “Strengthening the Integrated Maternal Child Health – the Role of Primary Health Care'' was apt.
He commended the political will demonstrated by Gov. Patrick Yakowa in providing free and qualitative health care services to the people.
Avidime said that though the state government had done much to improve the sector, there was still a lot more to be done in terms of infrastructure.
The chairman urged the public, especially medical and health workers to attend the Continous Medical Education session of the AGM to update their knowledge on current medical trends.
Avidime had earlier announced that the association would offer free medical services soon after the Ramadan fast.
He noted that the free medical services were being delayed to enable many people benefit from the scheme.
“This free medical service is part of our (doctors) annual social responsibility to the host community and we want many people to benefit from the programme,’’ Avidime said.
He said that members of the association were targeting about 1,000 indigent patients across the three senatorial zones of the state.
According to him, the scheme will cover various diseases and will also include operation, admission and provision of drugs for different ailments.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that no fewer than 300 patients benefitted from a similar exercise conducted by the NMA last year.?
The meeting is expected to end on Saturday with the emergence of new officials that would steer the association in the next two years. (NAN)
