The wife of??the Kwara governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, on Friday donated food items and beverages to 250 Muslim widows from the 16 local government areas of??the state.
The items, including rice, milk, sugar and wheat flour, were distributed by Ahmed under the platform of her foundation, LEAH Charity Foundation, at the Government House, Ilorin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gesture was part of activities lined up for widows during the month of Ramadan.
“The gesture was to demonstrate love and care for our widows with a view to cushioning the effects of hardship they might be going through as a result of the death of their spouses,” she said.
Represented by the administrator of the foundation, Mrs Bukola Akinleye, Ahmed said her husband’s administration would continue to make life bearable for the people regardless of their religion or political affiliations.
Ahmed assured the widows of continued support from the foundation, and called on wealthy individuals to come to the aid of widows and the less-privileged in the society. (NAN)
