The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Abuja?expressed its heartfelt sympathy with Nigerians and the Deeper Life Bible Church over the “sordid loss of its members''.
This is contain in a statement signed and issued on Saturday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Emma Uneukwu.
?“ We express our profound concern over the deepening tragic trend of untamed bloodletting in our beloved nation.
?“For some time now, the country has been a victim of persistent religious aggression, ” the statement said.
It stated that the masterminds of religious violence were actually a threat to the entire country, even to every black man on the face of the earth.
It urged the Federal Government to channel its efforts toward interfaith dialogue, considering the fact that some people now capitalised on religious sentiments to cause mayhem.
It commended the efforts of Muslim and Christian leaders who visited churches and mosques, with the aim of promoting peaceful coexistence among them.
It also commended the African Independent Television (AIT) in its ongoing sponsored interfaith dialogue programme, and for its efforts to reconcile the differences between the two religions in the country.
“ We in ANPP believes that Nigeria will soon overcome the challenges facing it.
“ This is why we want the Federal Government to also include interfaith relations and interreligious peace building as part of its strategy to fight religious terrorism, ” it said.
?It further commended the efforts of the Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) for fighting various societal challenges like climate change, girl-child education, polio and maternal mortality.
“ Every battle starts in the mind, and it is the mind of man that is the hardest to conquer.
“ Government should create a platform for Christians and Muslims alike to embrace each other and to resist any temptations to be the brother’s killer instead of his keeper,’’it added. (NAN)
