No fewer than 13 persons were, yesterday, feared dead in a fatal motor accident that occurred at Liambee Village, near Uchi-Mbakor in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue state.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred between 7am and 8am when a truck loaded with cement and was heading to Makurdi from Gboko collided with a 14 seater bus belonging to Benue Links Transport Company.
An eyewitness, Mr. Terngu Gbagh, who spoke to our correspondent shortly after the accident, narrated that the truck had tried to overtake another vehicle when it lost control and hit the bus.
According to Gbagh, the Benue Links bus driver was reported to have made? effort to avoid the heavy truck but could not , and said that the trailer finally pushed the bus into the bush.
But another source said, it was the bus that tried to overtake the truck which was driving uphill on low speed.
When contacted, the police told journalists that the bus loaded? at Gboko town and was travelling to Kano state before the incident took place.
Benue state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. A. D. Buba, who spoke to LEADERSHIP on phone confirmed the accident and said that he was still expecting report from the Gboko unit of the command.
