The Plateau State government has said that it has begun an assessment tour of the flooded areas in the state with a view of providing succour to the victims.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Pam Ayuba, stated this yesterday. He also said that the state government is carrying out the assessment through?? ministry of environment, assuring that the government would do everything possible to assist the victims.
According to Pam, the state ministry of works has also been mandated to go round the affected areas to take stock of damaged roads and bridges with a view to commencing repairs.
He added that the devastating flood in Southern area of the state is a major setback to the economic activities of the people of the area and the entire state, saying it is regrettable that the incident occurred during a farming period where most people in the state live on subsistence farming.
Ayuba further noted that many homes will go hungry after the raining season while many will be displaced because of the flood.
He lamented that some communities in southern Plateau has been cut off from their neigbour and local government headquarters, noting that major farmland and cash crops have been destroyed.
The state commissioner for environment , Mrs Serah Yusuf, also told LEADERSHIP on phone that she has gone round the affected areas to take statistic of villages affected by the flood in southern zone and would brief Governor Jonah Jang on the level of destruction.
