The I Mechanised Division, Nigerian Army Headquarters Kaduna yesterday distributed suicide bombers’ vehicle stoppers to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Jamatul Nasril Islam (JNI), Kaduna State chapters, to be used in their places of worships against possible attacks.
Presenting the items to the Christian and Muslim umbrella bodies at the 1 Divisional Headquarters of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Garba A. Wahab, said the presentation is part of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to fight all forms of terrorism across the country.
General Wahab said the Army will not relent, neither will it fail in the discharge of its social and constitutional responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of the Nigerian citizen. He however called on the general public to help with relevant and useful information that will further help them in carrying out their assignment effectively and efficiently.
The GOC reiterated that the suicide bomb vehicle stoppers were used in Pakistan and were effective in checking the activities of the terrorist group, just as he assured that the Nigerian Army was on top of the security situation in the country.
At the presentation ceremony, the senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kaduna State on Bureau for Religious Affairs (Christian Matters), Philip Arage commended the Nigeria Army, describing the gesture as a demonstration of high sense of collaboration with the communities towards fighting terrorism in the country.
Responding and receiving the items on behalf of CAN, the Public Relation Officer, Barrister Ben Churchill and Ibrahim Kufena Secretary of JNI all applauded the magnanimity of the Nigerian Army for the security apparatuses distributed to them for onward distribution to churches and mosques across the state.
