No fewer than 3,000 unemployed youths have been trained in various skills, the Coordinator, National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Imo, Mr Roy Isaac, has said.
Isaac told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Imo on Friday that some of those trained were graduates, adding that they were also empowered to set up their own business.
He said they were trained in computer, tie and die, soap making, barbing, welding, carpentry, knitting, tailoring, GSM repairs, generator repairs and electrical installation.
The coordinator added that a few of them were also trained and enabled to set up modern e-business.
“Some graduates are also attached to corporate bodies and public institutions under the directorate graduate programme.
“Women from various?councils of Imo were also trained in confectionery and food products to be self employed,” Isaac said.
Isaac, who had been transferred to Abuja, advised unemployed graduates to take advantage of the various programmes mounted by NDE to ease unemployment situation in the state.
“They should also consider self employment as an option instead of searching for scarce jobs.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Isaac is being replaced by Mr Jaja Isichei, a former Deputy Director in charge of Resource Centre, Abuja. (NAN)
