NYSC Members Empower Residents Of Angwalogo Community In FCT

?

NYSC members in the FCT on Friday in Abuja empowered more than 100 women?and children?of?Angwalogo Community in Mbora District of Abuja.

The corps member, from the Millennium Development Goals, Community Development Service (CDS) Group, taught members of the community how to make soap, and air freshener.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NYSC members also taught them how to make pomade and to repair mobile phone.

This is in a bid to increase economic activities in the community and make the residents self-employed.

In the opening remarks, the leader of the project group, Miss Gift Okeke, said the corps members were poised to contribute their quarter to the transformation agenda of the president.

She said that the vision 20:2020 was feasible if we all played our roles, adding that shunning corruption, violence and a change of attitude would surely lead us to our desired goal.

“We are MDGs corps members, we came here on a skill acquisition programme, we have come to share our knowledge of air freshener, pomade, soap making and phone repair.

“We are determined to make Nigeria a success. We shall do all we can to bring about the new improved Nigeria were unemployment will be history.

“This is our contribution to Mr President’s transformation agenda and we call on all those, who can affect a life for good to take a cue from this.

“?We can’t afford to fail the next generation, we can’t fail our country Nigeria,’’ she said.

NAN reports that the children of the community were not left out, as the corps members had a special lecture and an interactive session with children of the community.

Mr Eric Ochigbo, a corps member, who addressed the children?said that only respect for constituted authority, care of the environment, hard work in school and in the society would make them good leaders of tomorrow.

“If you want to be a good leader tomorrow, you have to work hard in school; you have to respect your parents and elders in the society.

“Live a healthy life style, take good care of the environment.?Do not indulge in activities that will?destroy your future, if you do, you will not be a good leader tomorrow, Nigeria will not be proud of you, you will?only disappoint?your parents and teachers,’’ he said.

He urged the children not to learn from the ills of our past and present leaders, but?to build on their virtues, to grow up in their innocence and make Nigeria proud in the future.

The corps member later provided the children with writing materials to encourage them in their studies in school and at home.

Mrs. Ann Akosu, a trader said that she would use the knowledge to improve on the economic status of her family and that she would share the knowledge with those who were not there.

Madam Margret Dupe, a house wife, said it was very interesting and wonderful to be at the forum, adding that if the government would do more of such things, unemployment would soon be forgotten. (NAN)
