A heavy downpour has wreaked havoc againg in Dutse local government of Jigawa, injuring?three persons and destroying?about 25 houses, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
NAN recalls that the?Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET) had earlier predicted flooding in Jigawa and some other states this year.
?The flooding occurred in Jigawa-sarki village in?Dutse Municipal Council after Thursday's heavy rainfall.
Malam Mustafa Yusif, a village head, told NAN on Friday that more than 25 houses were destroyed.
Yusif said that?people who?sustained injuries were immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
He attributed the flooding to?the?parameter fencing of a government secondary school built on?waterway,?thereby preventing the?from flowing along?its normal channel.
“We have been complaining for more than five years but the government is yet to intervene.”
NAN checks revealed that the culvert and drains in the area were blocked by refuse and sand.
Meanwhile, a victim of the flooding who gave his name as Malam Ali told NAN that he?lost all he had to the disaster.
“All my rooms and the property therein were destroyed by the flood,” Ali said.
Another victim, Inuwa Jigawa, described the incident as unfortunate, adding that he had relocated his family to a neighboringu?village.
NAN recalls?that an earlier flooding on Wednesday, claimed four lives and destroyed farmlands in Kiyawa local government area of the state. (NAN)
