The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has denied reports in the media that it deployed a total of 1, 000 officers to man the nation’s capital during the last Sallah celebration, saying that 1, 000 officers could not have been enough to secure the nation’s capital.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, Doris England, said that as part of the strategic policy of the police, the number of officers deployed for an operation is never disclosed, for security reasons.
According to England, when such information is brought to public domain, criminals could capitalise on it to carry out their operations.
“I wish to refute a newspaper report which said that 1, 000 policemen were deployed for the Eid-el-Fitri celebration. The fact is that enough planning was carried out and enough personnel were deployed for the celebration, but the number is part of the strategy of policing; and the present situation on ground is that strategies of policing or crime prevention are not revealed to members of the public so that they are not defeated before they are executed.
