As the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) celebrates 14 years of existence as a political party on Friday, Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has declared that the party was leading Nigeria in the right direction.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, Governor Aliyu said that the country has fared well under the party in spite of criticisms and hurtful remarks from civil society and opposition parties.
He remarked that since PDP came into power after a turbulent period of military rule which reached its heights in 1998, the party has made significant progress in returning the country to the path of sustainable development and steady economic growth.
He said in the last 13 years, PDP officials – both elected and appointed? at all levels of? government – have? worked tirelessly to? inject fresh ideas into all sectors of the economy so as to grow the nation’s? capacity in local production and improve the quality of service delivery. This, he said, has yielded positive results.
The statement said members of the PDP and, indeed, Nigerians have every cause to celebrate, and emphasised? that under the PDP, the nation has for the first time witnessed 13 years of an uninterrupted journey to the proverbial Promised Land.
“Although we are not there yet,” he said, “the journey is no longer as far as it used to be.”
Governor Aliyu thanked the founding fathers of the party and party supporters across the country for their continued belief in the PDP and its leadership, urging them to continue to keep faith with the party.
He called on Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, to support the transformation agenda of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, saying only an all-inclusive government will? bring about the desired change for a better Nigeria.
