The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ibadan ?on Saturday advised drivers to apply skills when faced with potential accident situations to prevent the occurrences.
Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, the FRSC Sector-Commander for Oyo State, gave the advice at a capacity building workshop for drivers of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Ibadan.
Ogagaoghene said that most drivers, in spite of their years of experience, were traumatised when faced with such situations.
He said that the aim of the workshop was to impart in the trainees the necessary skills to handle stress and traumatic situations.
“We will conduct behavioural and mental assessment tests on the drivers and reveal the results and ask them to make adjustments where required.
“Also, eye tests will be conducted and should we find any one of them requiring immediate medical attention, referrals would be issued,’’ Ogagaoghene said.
He asked the trainees to listen attentively to the contents of discussion, ?saying, “by the time you finish the course, you should be better drivers as you are going to learn something new despite your years of experience.’’
Mr Danjuma Bitiyong, NAN acting director of Administration and Personnel Management, expressed the hope that the training would enhance the skills of the drivers.
He urged the drivers to always maintain high standards because the management would always follow up on their progress after the workshop.
“For you to understand your duties better is why we initiated this programme. It is hoped that after this training, you will improve in your duty,’’ Bitiyong said.
NAN reports that 43 drivers participated in the workshop, which was facilitated by the FRSC Dept. of Training and Certification. (NAN)
