The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has concluded arrangements to
implement a non-sanction week throughout the country, its Irruekpen Unit Commander in Edo, Mr Udeme Eshiet, said.
He?told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the week-long programme tagged ”Operation Enlightenment”, would
commence on Sept. 3.
Eshiet?noted?that it was a way of enhancing the success of the Ember Months Campaign carried out throughout
the country every year.
The FRSC commander said that although traffic offenders would not be sanctioned during the period, No Sanction Week Men of the
commission would be under instruction to only stop, enlighten and give safety tips to road users.
He said FRSC officials would also use the opportunity to correct the erroneous notion among residents that Ember months were
ruled by evil forces.
The Irruekpen unit commander said the unit had already taken the Ember months campaign to Churches and Mosques, adding that it
was also collaborating with traditional rulers to reach every nook and cranny covered by the unit.
Speaking on general road safety goal, Eshit?said the commission was working hard to achieve its goal of reducing road crashes by 50
per cent.
He identified speed control as the greatest challenge of the body, noting that the speed at which motorists drove was way above the
recommended speed limit and cautioned that motorists should watch out and obey traffic rules. (NAN)
