A video editor with the DBS Media Company, Lagos, Michael Falade, was on Monday arraigned before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N575,870 belonging to the company.
Falade, 20, of 50 Wosilatu St., off Pako Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police prosecutor Akeem Raji told the court that the accused on or before March 29 at about 2 p.m. stole a safe box containing the sum of N553, 870, belonging to DBS Media Company, Lagos.
Raji said that the accused also stole a cupboard of three drawers worth N15,000, a 19 programme DVD valued at N3,800 and 8 DV Tapes valued at N3,200, all amounting to N22,000.
He said the cash and monetary value of items stolen amounted to N575,870.
The prosecutor said the offence took place at No. 6, Laleye Close, off Tafawa Balewa Crescent, Surulere, Lagos.
“An official of the media company noticed the missing box and alerted the managing director, and a search was conducted.
“The search was directed to the next compound which belongs to the landlord, who told the search team that he saw the accused carrying a box and going through his own side of the compound,” Raji said.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 285(7) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Magistrate A.O. Gbajumo granted the accused bail on self recognition with two sureties who should be blood relations and whose addresses should verified.
The case was adjourned to Sept. 24 for mention. (NAN)
