The first governor of Plateau State and former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Solomon Lar, says he has forgiven General Muhammadu Buhari who imprisoned him when he overthrew the Second Republic in 1984.
The elder statesman said this while filing questions from journalist yesterday at the venue of the Deeper Life Ministry’s Showers of Miracle Crusade held at the Church’s FCT Worship Centre, where Pastor W. F. Kumuyi ministered.
Lar said the military regime sent him and others to jail at the pretext that they embezzled money; he, however, denied ever stealing even a penny as claimed. He expressed happinessness that buhari? is now participating in politics and urged the military to abide by their code of ethics and allow politicians to rule the country.
“I have forgiven Buhari. First of all, I am a Christian and I have forgiven him since then. I think he acted in ignorance, because I know that he has realised that what he did was wrong and this is why he is participating actively in politics.
“I am very happy that he is participating in politics and? he has discovered that it is better to solve any political problem by the way the politicians do and not a military approach. I think he is doing the right thing now, and I hope he will think of nothing else other than getting power through the right channel.
“When we were put in the prison in 1984 by the General Buhari and Idi Agon regime under the pretext that some of us stole money but I never stole a penny; the military were just trying to make excuses to interfere with the political administration – something that they don’t have business with – but I am glad that the present crop of military men we have do not have that kind of ambition.”
