Tuesday’s bomb blast in Bauchi was targeted at Glo and Airtel telecommunications companies, the police said.
Addressing the press yesterday in Bauchi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command ASP Hassan Mohammed Auyo, explained that the bombs were planted to target Glo and Airtel communication masts along Gombe road Bauchi.
Auyo explained that another explosion planted by an unknown person had rocked the games village in Bauchi on Tuesday night.
“The IED was concealed in a black polythene bag, planted close to an Airtel mast at the games village area of Bauchi metropolis”, Auyo said.
He also said that the exploded devices damaged the air conditioner in the cabin, but no life was lost, and that only a security guard sustained injuries but that he was later taken to hospital, treated and discharged.
The PPRO said at about the same day and time, three unidentified men on a motorcycle went to the Glo mast along Gombe road, threw an IED concealed in polythene bag and ran away.
“The Police bomb squad went to the scene at about 2230 hours to disarm and remove it. It was discovered to be a timed IED, but they succeeded in disarming it this morning”, Auyo said in the statement to the press.
ASP Auyo who explained that no arrest had so far been made in both circumstances, and urged members of the public to go about their normal activities as security had been beefed up in strategic places of Bauchi.
He also urged the people to continue supporting the police and other security agencies with useful information to carry out their duties effectively.
Meanwhile, the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Restore Order, has condemned Tuesday’s destruction of GSM masts and facilities in Maiduguri.
Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, the JTF spokesman, made the remark in a statement released on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
