Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Joseph Sanusi and other associates were yesterday in Lagos State,? to pay their last respect for the? former CBN governor Mr. Olabode Vincent who was?? buried amidst tributes.
The? former CBN boss? body which laid? in state at his residence in Victoria Island, was conveyed to the African Church Cathedral Bethel at 59, Broad Street, in Lagos, where a funeral service was held.
At the service,? Right Reverend Isaac Akin Falana , the Bishop of Rivers State Diocese of the African Church? extolled the virtues of the late Ola Vincent describing him a man of honour whose integrity was not in doubt.
The clergyman said,? “Nobody goes to Baba and gets distraught. He will always try to meet your needs. He was a listening elder who devoted his time to address the problems of the youths who approached him.”
Falana charged? the country’s leaders to emulate the late elder statesman,? saying no matter how long anyone lives on earth they will one day depart.
As a mark of honour the? sympathizers comprising the representatives of corporate bodies and other well-meaning Nigerians who trooped out en-masse to pay him their last respect to the late former CBN governor followed his remains to Ikoyi cemetery where it was interred.
Some of the eminent Nigerians who were at the funeral include former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon , Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babatunde Fashola, former CBN Governor Joseph Sanusi , Deputy Governor of CBN Tunde Lemo, Deputy Governor of Ogun State Prince Adesegun Adesegun, first elected governor of Lagos State Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Chairman First City Monument Bank Chief Subomi Balogun, General Alani Akinrinade, doyen of the accountancy profession, Chief Akintola Williams, among others.?
