Nasarawa State government has donated N10 million to the Nasarawa State University to host the 27th Annual Conference of the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU).
This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Dr Hussaini Tukur, a member of the Programmes and Publicity Sub-committee of the conference.
The statement said that N5 million of the money would be used for the three-day conference, while the remaining N5 million would be used to renovate existing facilities and road network at the university’s Keffi campus.
It said that the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shamsudeen Amali, had, during an inspection tour of facilities put in place for the event, promised that the conference would be one of the best ever held in the country.
“Amali, who visited the university’s hotels in Keffi reserved for participants at the conference, said the university would ensure that all facilities and logistics were in place before the conference.
“He expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation by the Local Organising Committee and its sub-committees, which he said had been working hard to ensure the success of the conference scheduled to hold between Sept. 23 and Sept. 26.
“With the level of preparation, the university will become one of the best hosts for the Vice-Chancellors conference in recent years.’’
Meanwhile, Amali has commended members of Local Organising Committee for their efforts and commitment toward the successful hosting of the conference and urged them to put in more efforts to ensure an all-round success of the event.
The statement said that the conference, which has “Education and National Security’’ as its theme, would provide the platform for vice chancellors to deliberate on the security challenges facing universities in the country.
Nasarawa State University was mandated by AVCNU to host the 122 Nigerian Vice Chancellors at the 2011 conference, which took place at Madonna University, Okija.
The ACVNU is an umbrella organisation of vice-chancellors of federal, states and private universities in the country.?? (NAN)
