National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), in collaboration with? Nigeria ICT Forum of Partnership Institutions, has organised a module training and strategy, planning and management (SPM) for rectors and principal staff of polytechnics across the country as well as those of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Kaduna.
The workshop, which started on September 3, 2012 and ends today, is aimed at equipping administrators on the modalities to develop and monitor ICT strategic plans and policies in their respective institutions.
In his welcome address to the participants at the opening ceremony of the workshop yesterday, the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Dr Masaud A. Kazaure, stated that the workshop was also designed to train participants to build, deploy and manage open source e-learning system to enhance teaching and learning, he therefore implored the participants to take advantage of the workshop to build a robust and secure campus network.
He expressed optimism that, at the end of the workshop, the participants would have been provided with an understanding of what a module is, what it is capable of doing for students and teachers, and to understand the range of capabilities that module provides.
Also, in his remarks, the Director NBTE Centre of Excellence (COE) for Technical and Vocational Education/ Training (TVET), Dr. M.S Abubakar said, the COE emerged as a special innovation to build on the achievements of the UNESCO-Nigeria project for the revitalisation of TVE, executed? in two phases, between 2001 and 2010.
He expressed hope that the experience of the workshop will be a milestone for integrating strong elements of e-learning in the teaching and learning programmes.
The workshop had 44 participants from 29 TVET Institutions, and about 30 senior managers of polytechnics and similar colleges of technology.
