The Kano State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)on Monday threatened to go on strike if the State Government did not implement the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for its members.

This is contained in a statement signed by the association’s chairman and secretary, Dr Shehi Abubakar and Dr Sharfuddeen Mashi, respectively? in Kano.

‘’The NMA wishes to remind the government that it is high time it fully implemented CONMESS in the state's health sector.

‘’The instalmental percentage increment of CONMESS is no longer acceptable to NMA,’’ the statement said.

The statement decried the infrastructure decay in health institutions in the state, calling on the government to declare state of emergency in the sector urgently.

?‘’The scenario has led to the influx of patients to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, a designated tertiary institution that is intended to be a research-based facility.”

It said that no fewer than 100 doctors had left the service of the state since January.

‘’In the event of an epidemic in the state, God forbid, the state lacks the infrastructure and manpower to handle such disaster,’’ the statement added.
