A salesgirl, Abidemi Idowu,?27, was on Thursday docked at a Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with stealing N1.2 million belonging to her employer.
Idowu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, ASP Akinlebi Adegoke??alleged that Idowu, an employee of Ajoke Stores, located at No. 1, Redemption Crescent, Gbagada, Lagos, stole the money between April 2011 and Feb. 2012.
The prosecutor told the court that the fraud?was discovered following an audit carried out at the store.
“ Investigations showed that some receipts were missing; the receipts for goods supplied to customers whose money she failed to remit to the company's account.
“Idowu sold goods on credit without authorisation and then removed entirely the receipts issued after the sales, as well as the duplicates of the receipts,” he said.
The prosecutor alleged that Idowu, who resides at No. 13 Opeloyeru St., Bariga, Lagos, had failed to remit N1,203,392 belonging to Ajoke Stores, an offence that?contravened??Section 285 of the Criminal Law Code of Lagos State.
Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted bail to the defendant in the sum?of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 28 for trial. (NAN)
