The zonal commanding officer, Zone 8 of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Kehinde Adeleye, yesterday said most road accidents were caused by human factors due to impatience and ignorance on the part of drivers.
Adeleye who stated this during the commencement of a one-week free vehicle-road-safety checks/public enlightenment and advocacy exercise in Ilorin, Kwara state, said that there was no substance in the myth associating ember months with evil forces on Nigerian roads.
He noted that, “it was discovered that road crashes increase during ‘ember’ months in the past due to high rate of movement of people and vehicles hence, the need for us to check vehicles to detect faults and advise owners and drivers to put their vehicles in proper shape. “The end of year should not mean the end of life. We should be able to survive to see the new year”, he said.
The FRSC boss who said there will not be sanctions for any vehicle stopped for any offence during the one week of public enlightenment, added that the officers would only give free vehicle safety check list to traffic offenders to enable them go and put their vehicles in order.
