Unidentified gunmen, yesterday, launched an attack on MTN, Airtel and Visafone masts in Zaria area of Kaduna State and Mubi in Adamawa.
In Zaria, the gunmen riding on three separate motorcycles? set ablaze the three masts belonging to the three telecommunication? networks at about 9:15 pm.
The incident which took place at Anguwan Juma and Kwarbai area of Zaria city in Zaria Local Government Area, left residents of the area scampering for safety.
Eyewitness told our correspondent that the gunmen had after setting the masts ablaze shot into the air to scare residents away before taking to their heels.
The eyewitness said that the assailants had warned residents of the area to flee the scene before carrying out the operation.
LEADERSHIP gathered that men of the fire service from the College of Aviation were immediately mobilised to the scene of the attack.
When contacted, the spokesman of the State Police Command,? Aminu Lawan,? who confirmed the incident said that the command had since mobilise armed policemen to the site and that all effort was been made to put out the fire.
According to him, investigation that will lead to the arrest of the suspect has since commenced.
LEADERSHIP gathered that no casualties were recorded as a result of the operation.
No group or individual had, sofar claimed responsibility for the attack as at the time of going to press.
Meanwhile, gunmen have launched fresh attacks on GSM masts in Mubi town, Adamawa State.?
Residents of Mubi, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that the latest attacks took place around 4 am yesterday.?
The residents said the attack took place in Sabon-Layi area of the town where explosives were thrown at one of the base stations in the area, damaging part of it.?
“Also yesterday,? another tower near the market was attacked in the night around 8 pm”, one of the residents, who preferred anonymity told NAN.?
