The Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Arch. Reuben Okoya has made good his threat to sanction contractors who fail to live up to the terms of their contracts, by terminating the street light maintenance contract of CON Engineering Limited.
The engineering company was in charge of routine maintenance of street lights around Wuse 1, Wuse 2, Mabushi and Shehu Musa Yar adua Way axis, all in the Capital City Centre.
The coordinator noted with dismay that the council has observed that areas managed by the company were in constant darkness during its routine monitoring exercises at nights.
?Okoya said, “The decision to terminate the contract arose when it became obvious that the contractor handling the areas could not meet up with the demands of the authority of ensuring due functionality of the street lights.
“The decision of the council to terminate the contract is due to the contractor’s inability to improve his services despite several written and oral warnings.”
Okoya said AMMC was committed to ensuring that the street lights in the city are in good and sound working condition especially given the current security challenges in the country.
He warned other contractors to ensure that the zones under their control are well maintained emphasising that the council will not hesitate to terminate the contract of any company that handles the street light maintenance job with levity.
A statement by the Head Public Relations, AMMC, Ifeanyi Ughamadu, disclosed that the AMMC coordinator has constituted a special monitoring committee headed by the Director of Facilities Maintenance and Management, Engr. Emeka Afuba, to constantly monitor? the? areas covered by contractors? in order to ensure their optimal? performance and all round functionality of the street lights.
