As part of incentives to? women in the country, the federal government has initiated the YOUWIN business plan competition? to empower women with? a grant of N10million.
Management Partner on United Nations Project, Mr. Akubo Adegbe, announced this yesterday in Makurdi, at the “YOUWIN Women,” a business awareness campaign organised by Management Alternatives Limited (MAL) to educate and register women in Benue State for the competition with a view to alleviating poverty.
According to Adegbe, women who attend the clinic can get basic information on business developments; learn the correct procedures of enhancing entrepreneurship, as well as creating wealth through establishment of business ventures that would provide jobs for the teeming unemployed youths in the country.
He said: “prospective applicants must be female citizens of Nigeria between 18 and 45 years of age and that they must also possess a recognised post-secondary school qualification and have either an existing business or a new business idea that would benefit? from the grant that would be disbursed.”
Adegbe further said that rapid progress had been made since the flag off of the scheme by President Goodluck Jonathan on September 3, 2012 and that its focus on women only was because of the low female participation in the first edition of the competition, where he said, only 15 percent of applicants and 18 percent of winners were women.
The YOUWIN programme is an initiative of the Federal Government which is jointly being implemented by the Federal Ministries of Finance, Youth Development, Communication Technology and Women Affairs and Social Development with support from Word Bank, Department for International Development (DFID) and some organised private sectors.
