Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has approved a N15 million scholarship grant for deserving indigenous students in its bid to encourage and promote access to education for all eligible students in the council.
The council’s Supervisory Councillor for Special Duties, Mr. Sunday Alabi who made this known to journalists at the council’s monthly press briefing, said that it was the intention of the current administration to develop the human capital of the electorate, which had made the council to continue to be responsive to the scholarship needs of students in both secondary and tertiary institutions.
Alabi explained that the council executive approved the disbursement the N15m scholarship grant for students studying accredited courses in various institutions of higher learning across the country, saying the leadership of the council wants indigenous students to be more committed to their academic programmes.
He assured that the scholarship scheme will be transparent and based purely on merit.
“It the earnest desire of the leadership of the council under Hon. Micah Jiba to assist students in the council in acquiring good and qualitative education, and also to have better understanding about the world of the elite, that is why the leadership of the council has made qualitative education a top priority in his agenda for the residents of the council,” he said.
Alabi further revealed that in the area of agriculture, the council had also acquired tractors at the cost of N3, 185, 000 and subsidised them by 50 per cent to cost N1, 592, 500 in favour of duly registered farmers cooperative societies who were mandated to make down payment of N796, 000, with the remaining amount conveniently spread to be paid at installments.
