The Plateau Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Silvanus Dantoe, says the State is now a safe place for tourists to visit at any time.
Dantoe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Wednesday that government had put all security measures on the ground to secure the lives and property of tourists visiting the state.
‘’There is no gainsaying the fact that the state has faced some security challenges lately which created a lot of fear and negative notions in so many minds, hindering most tourists from visiting the state.
‘’I want to assure you that peace has returned on the Plateau and it has reclaimed? its slogan of the home of Peace and Tourism, and so shall it remain forever.
‘’ Government has put all security measures on the ground through various peace initiatives and there is the effort of the Special Task Force (STF) to secure the lives of tourists on the Plateau.’’
Dantoe called on Nigerians to come and tap from the rich cultural heritage which God had endowed on the Plateau without fear of any threats to their lives.
He said that tourists who wanted to take advantage of the rich natural resources that were in abundance on the Plateau should pay less attention to those describing the state as an unsafe arena.
“Plateau is an embodiment of diverse cultural heritage that could always attract the interest and attention of any tourist, locally and internationally.
‘’ Plateau has a lot of natural features, considering the rock formations, exciting water bodies and even the 52 tribes in the state have unique cultures that make the state a tourist centre.’’
The commissioner said he was optimistic that Plateau would soon regain its past glory of being one of the most peaceful states in the country because its inhabitants had resolved not to take up arms against each other again.
The influx of people into the state, Dantoe said, evidenced by the heavy traffic congestion along major roads in the state, was a clear indication that peace was returning on the Plateau.
