PAC Chairman Calls For Enhanced Electoral Process

The National Chairman,Progressive Action Congress (PAC), Chief Charles Nwodo, on Thursday called for electoral process that would ensure that the right people were voted to enhance good governance.

Nwodo, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, noted that almost 52 years after Nigeria’s? independence, many politicians who had nothing to contribute to the welfare of the people were still being elected to power

Nwodo said that many eligible voters in the country developed political apathy because they felt that many politicians got elected into offices with nothing to show for it in terms of dividends of democracy to the people.

According to him, the quantum of political violence that normally characterise some political campaigns and other political activities discouraged patriotic people from participating in partisan politics..

He also decried a situation whereby many politicians failed to fulfil the promise they made with the people, during electioneering campaign,? to better their lot.

Nwodo, however, called on Nigerians to eschew political apathy stressing that the development would ensure that the masses derived maximum benefit from dividends of democracy, on the long run.

According to him, when people are frustrated from participating in government, they could also develop apathy in voting which further worsen the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

He said, “a good government must harvest the best brain of its citizens not minding the party they belong in order to move the country forward.”
