Barely six hours after unknown gunmen attacked the House of former secretary to the government of the federation (SFG) Alhaji Aminu Saleh, in Azare around 9pm on Wednesday, killing the two policemen on guard, a team of soldiers has foiled an attempt by a lone gunman to carry out another round of attack on the house.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that a lone gunman had returned to Alhaji Saleh’s house and tried to gain entrance? but he was arrested by a team of soldiers which whisked him away.
Although the police in Bauchi could not confirm the story, up to the time of filing this report, LEADERSHIP gathered that some items recovered from the lone gunman include 10 SIM cards, 6 mobile phones and several rounds of ammunition.
It would be recalled that only a week ago, the late Comptroller-General of Nigerian Prisons Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Jarma was attacked and killed in Azare, alongside one of his aides by unknown gunmen.
A source who spoke to LEADERSHIP on the condition of anonymity, questioned why the police would claim ignorance of the attack on the ex-SFG’s house, saying “Is it when these evil men succeed in killing Alhaji Aminu Saleh or any other important figure that they police will pretend to be on top of the security situation in the state?”
