Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau on Monday said that Nigerians’ belief in?nationhood was the first step in the efforts toward?greatness.
“We are on a journey which also comes with challenges, but we must?remain resolute and optimistic as a nation because we shall surely overcome and come out stronger to the shame of our detractors,’’ Jang said in Jos.
Jang, who was speaking at the nation’s 52nd independence anniversary, said that Nigerians “must?do away with vices such as corruption, sectionalism and other unpatriotic traits for the nation to get to its destiny.’’
“Even as it is now, there is every reason for us to be thankful for our journey to nationhood so far because we have made progress and have witnessed transformation as a country.’’
“Nigerians should not to dwell on the negative side but to appreciate the positive strides in other spheres of our lives.
“It is these positive aspects that?will?propel the nation to the path of progress,’’ he said.
Jang urged Nigerians to continue to pray for President Goodluck Jonathan and other?leaders in the strive toward a united and prosperous?Nigeria in spite of all odds.
Mrs Talatu Jang, Plateau first lady, in her goodwill message,?implored citizens of Plateau to reflect on the virtues of peace, mutual tolerance and forgiveness.
In a statement signed by her press secretary, Akila?Kasham, the first lady advised Nigerians to set aside their ethnic, religious and political differences?so as to forge a common front toward greatness. (NAN)
