The Oyo State Government has reinstated 1,248 workers earlier sacked for alleged falsification of academic and birth certificates in? various ministries and schools in the state.
Mr Bosun Oladele, the State Commissioner for Information,? made this known in Ibadan while briefing newsmen after the weekly State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.
He said that government took the decision after going through the recommendation of the appeal panel set up to review the case of the sacked workers.
Oladele said that government was convinced by the report that some of the affected workers, who claimed to have completed primary school at the age of? nine? years, might not have falsified their ages.
He said 357 of the workers were compulsorily retired for what he called some “mild cases,'' adding that those who were reinstated would collect their full entitlements.
The commissioner also said that 111 workers, who were suspected to have forged academic certificates, did not show up for the review exercise.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls? that no fewer than 3,000 workers were either retired or dismissed in July for alleged falsification of their documents.
The decision had attracted negative reactions across the state which forced the government to set up a review panel on the matter.
