Mrs Lilian Nwanne, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), on Wednesday, advised motorists to comply with traffic rules to avoid accidents on the highways.
Nwanne told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Enugu that the advice became necessary to reduce the level of carnage on the roads, especially during the ember months.
She urged the motorists to avoid over-speeding and night travels, adding that they must also maintain functional headlights on their vehicles.
Nwanne also advised them not use the headlights to blind other motorists.
The enlightenment officer reminded haulage and articulated vehicle drivers to properly cover their goods to avoid causing obstruction to other road users.
“We also warn drivers to avoid overloading especially goods and passengers because when there is an accident on the road, the goods pose danger to the passengers.
?“ If you are carrying a very big load, we advise the passengers to enter a more conducive vehicle and leave their load in a vehicle that designed for load carriage.
“All these are what we are advising passengers and we pray that the road will be very safe for all motoring public this ember months.
“We have also flagged off going to the parks, roads, telling everybody, enlightening the people, telling them that please, endeavour to comply.’’
She said that officers and men of the command as well as the special marshals would be at traffic flash points in Enugu, especially the Ninth mile corner, Obollo-Afor and the Naira triangle to ensure easy flow of traffic during the yuletide season.
Nwanne said the commission had a dedicated line `122’ for the public to call during emergencies as it was toll free for all network providers. (NAN)
