Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa on Tuesday ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of all schools in the state following an upsurge of flood in the state.
Dickson’s order was due to the rising water levels across the state and the danger it posed to the citizens
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the order?is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, ?Daniel Iworiso-Markson.???????????
He said the decision was taken to safeguard the lives of children and to keep them away from possible dangers that could arise from the flood.
“Government has, therefore, appealed to parents and guardians to accept the decision as it was taken in the interest of all.
“We want to assure you that normal academic activities will resume as soon as the situation is brought under control,” he said.
Dickson also assured the people of the State of Government’s commitment to their welfare and well-being.
NAN reports that the flood is rising on daily basis?in Yenagoa and its environs, causing concerns among the people. (NAN)
