Niger State Governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has urged all the people in the state not to be afraid but to go about their lawful businesses as government would not relent in ensuring their safety.
Aliyu who was speaking based on the recent attack on security agents leading to the discovery of bomb making factories, said government has put all necessary machinery in place to ensure the security situation was not allowed to degenerate.
The Governor stated this while receiving Country Director of the International Republican Institute of the United States of America, Mr Robinna Namsisi at Government House, Minna, yesterday.
According to him, it was necessary that members of the public should cooperate with security agencies by offering valuable information that will lead to the tracking down of criminal elements in the society.
He said: “the utmost responsibility of the government is to protect lives and property, no sacrifice will be too little or too big to achieve this objective,” noting that security of lives and property was fundamental to any kind of development and should therefore not be left in the hands of security agents and the government alone but seen as the responsibility of all.
The Governor said that good governance, “is service to the people and humanity,” adding that “those who want to make money should not venture into public office”.
The? Country Director, Mr Robinna Namsisi, had earlier told the governor that the organisation is working with politicians and political parties to further entrench democracy adding that it is also training youths and the physically challenged on how they will participate in party politics.
