A 20-year-old girl identified as Lucy was shot on the chest at Apo, Abuja yesterday by one of the security personnel in the company of the Abuja Development Control who stormed the area for a demolition exercise.
She was rushed to Garki Hospital, where she died.
The incidence occurred at 7a.m.yesterday, when the officials of the FCT Development Control stormed Apo around the NEPA junction to demolish illegal structure in the area.
The move was greeted with protests by residents, who declared that the government had no right to demolish the structure when they were yet to be resettled.
They also claimed the case was still in court and their leaders had advised them to remain pending the outcome of the case.
Following the resistance, the officials had to leave but the residents noticed several patrol vehicles of the special anti-robbery squad, SARS and in less than five minutes after their arrival, they began to shoot sporadically and the residents started scampering for safety.
Unfortunately one of the bullets penetrated one of the shops and hit Lucy on her chest, she was rushed to Garki Hospital where she was confirmed dead.
At the hospital the Chief Superintendent of Police Operations of the FCT Police command, Mr Gabriel Inalegwu arrived the hospital and met a member of the House of Representatives? for AMAC/Bwari constituency of the FCT , Zephaniah Jisalo in tears.
Inalegwu who also felt the pinch told the lawmaker he was unaware of the presence of his men and assured that the incident would be investigated.
‘’We are not sure what took our men there or what led to the shooting, it is still a matter for investigation.”
