Technical Director of Akwa United, Charles Bassey, has revealed that the club expects newly employed manager, Justin Tenger, to secure a place in Africa at the end of the 2012/2013 season. The experienced Tenger, who took Niger Tornadoes to the lower division, was recently appointed as gaffer following Solomon Ogbeide’s decision to join rivals, Warri Wolves.
Bassey believes lessons have been learnt from the club’s return to the elite class.
“Akwa United came from the lower division and had a good season last term. It’s necessary to expect something better this season. We believe a ticket to play in Africa will be ideal for the club,” the 1980 Afcon winner said to supersport.com.
Tenger has also coached Wikki Tourists, Gombe United, Kwara United and Lobi Stars amongst others. Akwa United have never won the NPL.
