A salesgirl, Mary Obok, 23, was on Tuesday arraigned for allegedly stealing five cheque leaves and forging the owners’ signature to withdraw a total of N189,000 from the accounts.
Obok, who lives in the Surulere area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy and forging before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Solomon Akinlotan told the court that the accused had on Sept. 24– with others still at large– stolen two Ecobank and three UBA blank cheque leaves.
He said that the cheques belonged to one Oluchi Ndubuisi and Berkshire Well Ltd.
Akinlotan said that the accused forged the signature of Ndubuisi and Berkshire Well Ltd., and stole N89,000 and N100,000 respectively from two Ecobank accounts.
He said that the accused committed the offence at No. 9 Dabiri Close, off Falolu St., Surulere, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285(5), 363 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.A. Ladipo granted the accused N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Nov. 5. (NAN)
