A shop at the popular Kantin Kwari textile market in Kano metropolis was gutted by fire yesterday evening, destroying textile materials worth millions of Naira, our correspondent report.
An eye witness said that the incident happened at about 5:00 pm on Tuesday when customers were busy trooping to the market to buy textile materials.
According to the source, the fire believed to have occurred through an electrical problem was however quickly put off by the men of the state Fire service who arrive the scene promptly.
“The quick intervention of the state fire service prevented what would have been a major fire disaster in the market”, the source added.
Official of the Market Traders Association; Alhaji Iliya Kantin Kwari siad that only one shop at a complex Dan Saran Kano House was affected by the fire incident, attributing the incident to electrical fault.
When contacted, the Deputy Director of the state Fire Service, Alhaji Dauda Idris confirmed the incident and said the timely intervention of his men has resulted in putting off the ifre as only one shop was destroyed.
He said, the quick response of the fire service prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the market.
