Senate president David Mark has advised the government and people of Benue to remain peaceful during and after the forthcoming local government election in the state.
Mark, who was represented by his wife, Helen, gave the advice at the burial of the late PDP Women Leader, Mrs Victoria Abeda, on Saturday at Tsar-Mbaduku? in Vandeikya Local Government Area.
He advised the electorate to continue to show tolerance in their political activities, a statement made available to to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday stated.
The Senate president, who noted that only political stability could guarantee infrastructure development in the state, described the late Abeda as a humble, hardworking, God-fearing woman and a respectful politician.
“She died when her wealth of experience, as a mother and a selfless politician, is needed most. As a respectful politician, she displayed a lot of humility in the discharge of her duties.’’
He prayed God to grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss just as he promised to be with the family in their moments of need.
Speaking during the funeral service, the Deputy Governor of Benue, Mr Steven Lawani, said the late Abeda was an embodiment of humility.
Lawani urged the family to always look on to God for divine help, and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
He urged the people to remain calm and vote for the PDP in the forthcoming council election.
The PDP chairman, Benue chapter, Dr Emmanuel Agbo, prayed for the children of the deceased, saying that God would? lead them in the remaining part of their lives.
