Supporters of? Gov Olusegun Mimiko? on Sunday? trooped out in large numbers to the streets of Akure in? celebration of? the victory of the governor.
Different groups of young men and women,? who had gathered in groups in? different parts of Akure,? trooped to the streets? immediately the result was announced by INEC.
On Oba Adesida Road, Mimiko’s supporters took over one lane of the road while the motorists made use of the second lane.
A detachment of policemen, however, monitored the crowd to prevent break down of law and order.
Also, a very large number of residents were sighted at the Government House to celebrate with the governor.
The Oba-Ile, Isinkan, Arakale and other places were sighted trekking towards Government House in jubilation.
Mrs Folasade Adewumi, a trader, told newsmen that Mimiko deserved the victory.
She said she was happy that Nigeria was moving forward and democracy had come to stay .
Adewumi, who described the governorship election as the best in the state, also commended the President Goodluck Jonathan over the conduct of the? election.
A driver, Mr Owolabi Olusola, expressed delight over the re-election of Mimiko, pointing out that the election was peaceful, free and fair.
